Optometry with Independent Prescribing (MOptom)
Exposing students to real life practice settings is an important part of the undergraduate optometry curriculum.
Optometry students undertake shorter placements in community optometry settings across the first 4 years of their undergraduate studies and placement within hospital secondary care (ophthalmology in years 3 and 4). During their 5th year students are based solely in practice on placement. These placements enhance the theoretical and clinicals skills learning that students undertake within the University setting and helps to consolidate their understanding and learning.
Students undertake placements across Scotland including remote & rural and Island settings, providing exposure to how eyecare services are delivered within different communities.
