Biography
Dr Heather Bain is Associate Head of the Centre for Rural Health Sciences. Heather has over 20 years teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with a particular focus on nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, prescribing and advanced practice. Heather led the introduction of the paramedic science programme into Robert Gordon University in 2020.
Heather has actively promoted community nursing throughout the UK, being a member of several working groups, including chairing the Association of District Nurse Educators. In recognition of contribution to the development of community nursing education in Scotland she was awarded the title Fellow of Queens Nursing Institute Scotland in 2017.
Heather has extensive experience in the QA of education reviewing and monitoring programmes on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and has had a secondment with the Nursing and Midwifery Council inputting into the 2018 prescribing standards. She is a member of Editorial Advisory Board, Primary Health Care Journal.
Research
Heather’s main areas of research interest are related to education, community nursing, advanced practice and prescribing for all healthcare professionals. She has experience in mainly qualitative research with a particular interest in case study research.
