Biography
On completing her undergraduate degree at Queen Margaret University (QMU) in 2014, Megan worked in various clinical and research roles. Deciding that her heart lay in research, she returned to QMU in 2016 to start a doctorate. Megan’s PhD research explored how nurses and deaf, British Sign Language (BSL) users can interact and communicate effectively with one another. The findings highlighted the significance of historical, political and social contexts in which knowledge is produced. During her PhD studies, Megan transitioned into a full-time role as a nurse educator and has gained experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Megan joined the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at UHI in 2023.
Research
Megan’s research practices are focused on creating knowledge that enacts social justice with marginalised groups. As a researcher, she strives to understand how research methodologies and methods can be shaped through relationships with the people and communities she interacts with. Megan has a strong sense of social justice and believes passionately in relational approaches to working with people and communities.
