Biography
Morag Forbes is a lecturer on the nursing programmes in the Centre for Rural Health Sciences, particularly at undergraduate level. Morag’s clinical background is midwifery (including maternity risk management), Family Nurse Partnership and school nursing. She trained in Scotland and worked clinically in London and West Yorkshire. Outside of the NHS, Morag was a volunteer independent midwife with the charity, Medical Justice, visiting pregnant women in immigration detention to give an independent medicolegal opinion on their care. For two years, Morag also worked part time for Public Health England/OHID as a Nursing and Midwifery Physical Activity Clinical Champion, empowering clinicians to promote physical activity effectively to patients/clients.
Morag is passionate about the health of vulnerable/disadvantaged populations and has spoken on these topics at professional conferences (RCM, RCN, Birthrights, London Network of Nurses and Midwives), as well as on BBC Radio 4. Morag is a member of the LGBTQ+ Network for Nursing and Midwifery Academics (UK and Ireland).
Teaching
Morag teaches mostly on the undergraduate nursing programmes. Particular areas of teaching interest include:
